About the competition
Digital Camera Photographer of the Year is a world-leading competition for anyone with a passion for digital photography. Open to both amateur and professional photographers anywhere in the world, our goal is to find the most inspirational images and celebrate the imagination of the photographers who made them. Last year was one of our strongest contests to date, and we have no doubt that this year we be even better. To see some of the stunning images from last year's competition, visit our Winners section.
The competition is organised by the UK's top photography magazine, Digital Camera (find out more and see fantastic subscription deals). The magazine's sister website, PhotoRadar, contains a wealth of inspirational images and helpful advice for improving your photography. You'll even find a dedicated Digital Camera Photographer of the Year forum.
As always, we've made a number of improvements to the competition. For starters, we've added two new categories this year – Gardens & Plants and Family & Friendship. There are 10 categories to choose from in total and you may enter your photos in multiple categories or just one. Entry costs just £10 and allows you to enter up to 50 of your images into the competition, with up to 5 in each category.
On offer this year are prizes worth more than £20,000, and prize money this year has been spread amongst all 10 categories of Photographer of the Year, rather than one, single cash prize for the overall winner.
Each of the 10 first place category prizes have increased this year, giving photographers a greater chance at winning a bigger prize than ever before. Each category winner will receive £1,500 plus a one-year subscription to Digital Camera magazine, while second-place winners in their category will receive £400 and a one-year subscription. Third-place winners will get a one-year subscription to Digital Camera and a 1-year membership to the Royal Photographic Society.
The overall winner of the 'Photographer of the Year' title will take home an additional kit prize worth £1,000.
See the Categories section to see what's expected from each category and browse the pictures uploaded so far. We've also clarified a number of rules. Please visit the Rules section for full terms and conditions before entering.
The competition is open for entries until 2pm on 30 September 2011. Following this deadline a final shortlist will be announced, followed by the category winners and an overall winner, as selected by our panel of expert judges.
